Sunflower Seeds Sown (Second Round)
This ain’t
hide and go seek bird snacks.
Ain’t no “oh yeah, I left
my lunch there,”
for you, squirrels!
Don’t act like we don’t feed you
your three pounds a week.
This time
we’ve got netting
and a pinwheel parade to
persuade y’all away.
Look. It ruffles my feathers, too.
But there’s room. We can all grow tall.
Don’t make me plant more onions
or marigolds if you misbehave.

“We can all grow tall” is such a gorgeous line! The tone of this one had me smiling wide
Ah, the eternal fight with the local wildlife when it comes to trying to plant new things… Reminds me of my own stories on that front in such a fun way.
funny conversation in the garden
I have beef with some squirrels, too. I like the firm but kind tone of the speaker. 🙂
I always have a hard time growing sunflowers—but am trying again this year! I hate yo see it but I think our neighborhood hawks are getting to the squirrels before they get to the seeds. I like your poem! I hope they heard you, too.
