Surefootedness
I’ve noticed this
about goats: their
surefootedness—
it’s all a trompe-l’oeil.
When they land
precarious, they
simply spring
with dog-leg grace
to a new perch
(over and over).
Try it the next time
you cross a creek
or you think a fall
will be your last.

Great poem, Nancy, but I think I’ll leave the leaping to the goats for now!
I hope you’re right in this case, Nancy. I’m getting a little wobbly these days. Next time I’ll try to emulate those goats.
I don’t know but that bouncing goats might be my favorite videos of all. Just sayin.
Lol…need these goat legs…I have a tendency to throw myself in creek beds!
“When they land / precarious, they / simply spring” – love this!
Wisdom from observing!
A delightful poem.
Such an interesting observation from closely watching the goats. It’s impressive how sure-footed animals are—then again, they don’t live as long as we decrepit humans!
I love how many levels this poem touches. My favorite line: Try it the next time
True of a lot of things, which is why I like this so much. The goat is a teacher of embracing the precarious, I never thought of it in exactly this way though…bravo!
A very unique way of looking at goats + a lesson to be learned for humans–nice!
