Surprise
marigold’s
conversation from within
flips an internal absorber
bounces off the cups
of our ears:
words
inside out
& upside down
born like a baby slung
over her mother’s shoulder
carried recklessly yet somehow
with care
marigold’s
slow unfolding
a doubling down on the primal urge
marigold’s
surprise
an issue in the politics of living
& no matter what’s the matter
you will come when you come
and make the world new again

I love the myriad ways you characterize the marigold’s bloom! Great work!
Drop dead gorgeous, Jim! The poem is both cerebral and emotional. Adore it.
Love the last stanza, Jim and that carried like a baby is beautiful, too.
I love that image: “like a baby slung/over her mother’s shoulder”
Very nice!
This poem was so intensely personal for me that I forgot to let the reader know that Marigold is my granddaughter predicted to be born on my birthday, Sept 3
Congrats!
Congratulations Jim!!!!
And this poem is delicious a delicious flow.
” and make the world new again.”
I hope they actually name her Marigold. It’s a beautiful name. Lovely poem. Jim does it again!
“an issue in the politics of living“
