Tarnished Gold Frame
Tarnished Gold Frame
holds two items,
a picture of my father
in Italy during WW2
and a cancelled check.
It holds more than those two items,
however, for it guards the life of my father
and his father on a day in 1952,
their signatures on that cancelled check.

I like poems about photographs. Your poem feels like every time I pick up an old one and I don’t know the whole story but want to. Did he buy a ticket? a house? a business? a life?
Thanks, Amy, I have similar thoughts when I see photographs. My father raised 9 children and 9 grandchildren, and left a legacy of honesty and a life of helping friends and neighbors.
