That Mockingbird
I know about the mockingbird
Because I saw that movie.
Dill and Jem and Jean Louise
And Atticus are groovy.
Then yesterday a mockingbird
Alit near me two times.
His crazy trills and warbling
Contained their own weird rhymes.
I listened to him carefully;
He sat and sang quite gladly.
I got more from that mockingbird
Than I did from Boo Radley.

The rhythm in your poem is golden!
Thanks! It sounds like I’m about to break into “Funky Cold Medina.”
A modern man’s “I heard the learn’d astronomer.” Whitman would be proud!
That’s me: Modern Man Rouse
Ha! Your comment above about breaking into “Funky Cold Medina” made me laugh out loud. Just yesterday at my PT appointment, this UC student was saying how much he hated reading To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s strange how the universe warps and echoes.
