the art of not reacting
“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” -Eleanor Roosevelt
do what they will,
you only control yourself
the therapist said
as if not reacting
was a choice
my power
I excel at stillness
empty apartment and I
am fossilized
by antiquated fear
nobody here pins me
butterfly-like
the knowing is enough
trespassing fingers (spike) insistent messages (nail) mere memory (stiffening resin)
just wait it out perhaps
they will tire before your suspension
…
what exactly is autonomy?

I love the word choice in the lines “I excel at stillness/ empty apartment and I/ am fossilized/ by antiquated fear// nobody here pins me/ butterfly-like”
That spike/nail/resin line is a standout for me! Really captures that moment of feeling so impossibly stuck.
“I excel at stillness” is such a pregnant line- love it
Excellent word choice!
Felt. I loved “empty apartment and I/am fossilized/by antiquated fear”
