The Conversation
It felt like fall.
Blue sky, light wind, no clouds
Sitting back to back under a tree
With someone
Who wants
nothing from you
But to be there.

Yes! I love this — simple and true. <3
Thank you Alvera <3
The beginning lines, the ending lines, are the backs (“back to back”). In between there is the heart of this for me— “with someone.” Who couldn’t keep this one in their pocket? Who doesn’t want to breathe here, under this tree, with the kind of friendship that asks and wants nothing more than this?
I hadn’t thought of it as the heart but it is – there’s the essence of the thing. The with someone, and who that someone is makes being still not only tolerable but preferred. Thank you Manny.
You create a great shape on the page with your spacing, and the “with someone” hanging alone to tie the two stanzas together is deft. A wonderful piece.
I’m glad you like the shape and spacing – it feels like it landed in a comfortable shape which is how the words feel to me. Thank you Bernard.
Wonderful.
Thank you Wendy <3
Bernie said all I was going to say.
Beautiful.
And all the more beautiful a thought right now, in isolation.
Thank you! What is that saying….”Friendship is a sheltering tree” (maybe that’s a poem too – I’m sure it is)
You have given us the best definition of a friend.
