Therefore But For
She began in spoken word
she had yet to place on the page
details pain
all the seeking
the unknowing
the relentless back-&-forthing
& when I attempt seduction
into the arena
she falls back
shame & fear overtakes
sending me her poem
declaring
she’s not willing
to step into the gaze
of the not-knowing
seeking answers
only poetry provokes
when tensions peak & border on unbearable.

This poem ‘s capture of the impetus to spoken word “she had yet to place on the page” expresses the push we all feel to put pain outside us. I’m especially moved by the lines “she’s not willing/to step into the gaze/. . .seeking answers/only poetry provokes. . ./
Great insight. Thanks
Very deep provocative poem!
Thanks, Linda
I love the final thought. I love ” when tensions peak & border on unbearable.”

It’s interesting how many people think of writing poetry as a comforting thing, a place of refuge and solace. In my experience it’s often the opposite: a place of confrontation and struggle. Your subject here seems to have agreed with me. Fine poem.

Whoops. This was supposed to be it’s own post. But I’m glad to share with another Linda!
“The relentless back-and-forthing” is quite a turn of phrase.
Oh! The shame and fear. You’re singing my song.
Very well crafted poem. I love the tension that the shape.creates.
