These Days
I am a knobbly goddess
Queen of bone spurs and calcium deposits
A reckless pilgrim
Shilling words on a streetcorner
Most mornings I savor
Clouds with my coffee
Feast the nightly moon
With my cup of wine
Li Po in my thoughts
My spiritual lush
I watch shadows squander
Their murky secrets
Cast fear of what lies
Waiting

Love those shadows for squandering their murky secrets. Intense ending!
I, too, am a knobbly goddess! So, I felt called as soon as I started reading. What a great opening and energy sustained throughout.
Oh, my. Such great images of daily life! And the form contributes, especially as it gets smaller toward the end. And I love the lines “Li Po in my thoughts/My spiritual lush”
Perfect images for a “goddess” and “reckless pilgrim.” I love how you used reality with a twist of whimsy.
knobby goddesses can get it
LOVE your use of language here.
The whole poem balances so well—a modern bohemian hymn.
The knobbly goddess drew me in – I love what accompanies your coffee and wine!
I could read this a thousand times. Such an openness, a place to rest and breathe, in the telling of truth.
you see right through me, Sylvia, especially with those last words
