Richness
Puppeteering princess with pigtails races
through with squealing Barbies in a pink car chased
by prancing shelties clicking closely behind
annoying lawyer armed with hammer lords over tv screen
while ceiling fan whirs overhead
grinding ice clinks into a glass in the kitchen
My mind grinds to a halt
In a world of constant motion and chaos
calm confidence rests in silence
Reading held at arm’s length
glasses planted atop the salt and pepper
he sits across the room in concentrated study
21 years of life together
gratitude whispers
reminds me
silver is gold.

I love this poem. The first stanza’s tumult of images alone engaged me. Imagine my surprise as the rest of the poem unfolded. Congrats on the poem and your life together.
Thank you so very kindly.
Such a warm poem of daily life. I felt like I was watching, as a fly on the wall. Calm confidence rests in silence, is my motto for the day.
Thanks, Christina.
“My mind grinds to a halt” reflects how a poem can totally change course.
A change in thought to appreciate the fact that some things remain the same. That’s comfort!
