Upper Class Life
I wonder if you go to therapy now
to help you deal with your upper class life.
Do you complain about how the job hunt is going?
Vent about how much you miss your family?
Do you revisit the trauma of your ex girlfriend accusing you of sexual assault?
I wonder if they’ll make you realize what you did
or if they’ll just affirm how you already felt about it.
Therapy or no therapy
accountability or apathy
you will always be my burden to bear.

This poem is seething! A very powerful write, thank you for sharing. I really loved the rawness of emotions and the directness.
Agree this is powerful. The last line anchors the entire poem–it has a strong gravitational force that orders all the other words.
Michayla,
Upper Class Life ~ of course there is no revisit of anyone’s trauma but SELF
all the narcissistic reflections . . . of I ME MINE (as George Harrison reminded us in song)
powerful piece
I pray as a nation we will care enough to come together to make ALL OF THEM ACCOUNTABLE . . .
especially the ones pulling the wool over oh so many eyes
thank you for this poignant piece,
Darlene
