We The People
“People are pure at birth.
Surely, we as a mankind are better than this.”
My nonna scoffed at my naivety,
“We most certainly are not. There’s no proof that we are.
Only proof that we aren’t.”
Mankind
is not better than this.

poignant, and it reminds me of the psychoanalytic discourse of luminaries like Freud who would have agreed wholeheartedly with your nonna in this poem. There is a strong and necessary point being made here. I appreciate this poem, it does what I wish we could see more poets doing.
