All I’ve Got
Hard nut of a poem
the last pistachio in the bowl,
its unsplit shell.
Black walnut still in its husk.
A dusty bag of Christmas nuts,
not a cracker in sight.
Hard nut of a June poem
buried deep in the sun-dry dirt.
nowhere near ready to sprout.

Looks like a baby tree from here 🙂
Nice write on a hot day.
Thanks! LOL First poem I have posted this year.
I love the concision here, and the mystery of an unsprouted poem!
I love “dusty bag of Christmas nuts.” This little nut is alive!
All you’ve got is plenty, Pauletta! Wonderful to have you back on Lexpomo.
Nice “Hard nut of a June poem!”
This is such a great expression of I how feel everything I TRY to write.
As a lover of pistachios, this image sings:
Hard nut of a poem
the last pistachio in the bowl,
its unsplit shell.
What Linda said!
“buried deep in the sun-dry dirt.” Love the sound work.
It often feels as if our muses are pelting us with hard nuts! As Ringo Starr once sang, “you know it don’t come easy.” Nice poem, Pauletta.
Certainly a relatable poem! The perfect metaphor for the poem that won’t come–the tough nut to crack! (Lol–had to go there!)
