When You’re Unease Is Not Easy
Sinkholes exist in the body that seeks an easy peace,
even if the body never lays eyes on them.
They hide underground; they develop slowly;
they wait for no timely entrance. They
are you at the pit of your stomach
trying to stanch the bile
that would rear it’s head,
demand Feel this, now.
You’d rather ignore
but can’t.

Please email this poem so I can fix it. Thank you.
I love the way the sinkholes-in-the-body metaphor grows, especially the feeling of stanching bile.
Sinkholes can be massive, suddenly…
Damn straight.
I love how the shape and flow of the poem mimics the form of a sinkhole. Gorgeous work
Perfect imagery. Powerful poem. Shape mirroring meaning.
Hi Melva,
I said the same thing to my daughter yesterday, but of course not in words as wonderfully wrought as these. I look forward to reading your work this June
