leaning patriots who dare
not call yourselves
patriots anymore
because it’s been co-opted
by the radical right.

Who gave anyone the “right”
to be radical? Especially now
the question of right and wrong
sluices up like watermelon jelly
but it’s a question of right and left.
and did you know
that the corpus callosum
of left handed people is larger,
allows more synthesizing ability
than that of right-handed folks?

Perhaps the same is true in politics.
But I am back to willful stupidity
and I confess
Some days
I embrace it willfully.
On purpose treating
everyday events
as if they were just that
Instead of the tyrannies they are
instead of the Holocaust
they are marching towards.

What can I do?
The coward in me
wrings her hands
and shakes her head.
Then I remember
I can bury my head in the sand.
