your baby
does not look
so small
next to his cousins
toothless Timmy
and the Applesauce Monster
your wife
says summer is
aging too fast
though we are
weeks from solstice
and you know it
is true
when you approach
your baby
at the pool
and he is happy
with a splash-splash crew
of sunkissed kids
is not as interested
in old dad
and I can sense
him moving
farther and
farther
away

I love the way the lines in the last stanza get shorter and shorter as the baby distances himself; love the monikers for the cousins!
So good to read your work again! Any parent feels this ache of separation, even in the slightest form.
Heartbreakingly lovely
great poem:
life in 3D
love:
does not look
so small
next to his cousins
toothless Timmy
and the Applesauce Monster
Beautiful ending.
From toothless Timmy and Applesauce Monster to inevitable loss. Strong.
