Voyage

Perhaps these three doors truly travel.
One abalone and salty—slick to the touch

as if satin-milled from the mouth of oysters.
The second, iron, its warped bars reaching

like bougainvillea flower or fragrant wisteria
torturous-tearing through the frame.

Third, a redwood tunnel, wind
whisperer luring visitors through millennia

into moist paths of bacterial lichen,
grooved with the springs of mycelium!  Then,

whisked off to Sicily, perchance to Spain!
The language is practical—notes and syllables

the same.  I turned to pass
through the ferrous choking giant,

made choice for another portal,
and could not find the iridescent door to return.

Nor a tree. There was no newness,
no grub to root out, none to chase,

and about face I returned—
where is my refund?

No doors found, no
forest, nor stars, only empty night.

Something happened,
not what I wanted, and

restless,
I ate.

Your Anklet

my name             cast in                   hebrew
lays on                 your skin              chaining
me     to                you      as              you sit
in   the                 meadow                capris
teasing                 me with                the bare
essence                of your                  beauty
You need             nearly                    nothing
to keep                 my eyes                 enthralled

unfinished

this world
has always
felt aflame

a fireball sure
of it’s return to
fire &brimstone

certain it will
burn everything
in its wake

some say hell
is right here
on earth &

 i can’t help
wonder if we
are the children

of fallen angels
stuck here  trapped
suspended by  the

sins of our
fathers

Restitution II

It’d be simpler if I weren’t so complicit.
If I didn’t dream about you. If I didn’t sit
in the front seat of this Accord with my hands
wrapped around your forearm and my body
perspiring guilt. I reek of it. I reek of you.
You hold my face in a gripped right hand,
my body captive with just the
weight of your warm palm.

Hairdresser Woes

Mary Jo shared her husband left her
Suzy’s sad her mother just passed
Heidi just lost her job
Cathy’s fibromyalgia flared up

Is it the relaxing shampoo,
close proximity that spur
all these sad tales?

She’s not their therapist
But they spill daily
Both the sad
and the glad.

They’re like family
She confides.

for Bōshu (Jun 6- 20)

 wet trillium bloom

 beneath a bowed head– there!
          even mantis prays

carrying lanterns
     we climb temple stairs
  —fireflies

  saran wrapped riceballs
       how do yellow plums
      become this red prize?

What will life be like?

What will life be like when I continue to let myself fall into this hole

What will life be like when I continue to rot on this bed

What will life be like if I let myself fall further

What will life be like if a stood up and did something

What will life be like if I breath in for too long

What will life be like if I escape what’s inside me

What will life be like when I leave

What will life be like if I actually tried for once

What will life be like when I’m dead
