M. Davis et Juliette
You fall in love too easily Frances said to me,
The blue note of her parting song a blow—
There will never be another, she.
I landed high in Paris singing, my heart freed.
Not so stateside, such ways disheartening and low.
You fall in love too easily Frances said to me.
Yes there was a French girl, one Juliette Marie.
She loved me as a man and as a Michelangelo.
There will never be another, (she
always said to me Miles Davis stay in Paris,)
but the times we shared set me off to go.
You fall in love too easily (Frances said to me
why didn’t you stay? To the vineyards to flee?)
It is alone, ma belle—forever I count time alone.
There will never be another, she.
Someday my queen will come, and we’ll agree;
Perhaps I cannot hope to be her beau.
You fall in love too easily Frances said to me.
There will never be another, she.

I like the parentheses the most, the movement. I like the journey this poem goes on, nostalgic but carrying on.
much appreciated A. Mills 🖤
I really enjoyed the rhythmatic nature of this poem, and how you gave us these asides with the parentheses like A. Mills said
thank you Shaun T 🖤
well done. Love the enjambment.
thank you Alyse, I love those spots where it can drive the action of a piece.
“forever I count time alone.”
What a line!
wonderful sounds and repetitive refrains. Also, I’ve learned something in most all the poems you’ve shared.
Thanks, Manny.
Thanks to you Scott.

but what is the sound of one hand clapping three times? tell me!
“I landed high in Paris singing.” What a line in a lpoem with several standout lines.
I’m taking out my imaginary white-out and pretending to erase that l before the word poem. Can we make corrections in the comment section?
