Noise
A bird
made her nest
in the nooks and crannies
of the canopy over
my covered parking space.
I hear them in there,
crying for their supper.
But she has flown away
maybe to find more food,
maybe because I was standing
too close.
A cicada
lost its way
and ventured too far west.
It’s in the tree
on the way to my mailbox.
It’s amazing that
two tiny gossamer wings
rubbing together
make such a loud noise.
We stuff our lives with noise–
the television, the radio, the internet,
the soundtracks that our brains provide–
But even if the noise we make goes silent,
Nature’s loud.
