How to Remain Present in This & Other Times
Write about Tragedy:
About sickness
about wars, about bullets
about what is broken
what was lost
what struggles
what (Who) is fallen
and laws.
Write about summer:
About breaths
filling
spaces within
the deck that’s held
You, in other seasons,
the Other
where you’re moving.
Remember. Consider. Dream
of years to come.
Write about Definition:
Forget vocation
become the ovation
embracing liminal space
then step
through.
Write about Wonder and Beauty:
About geese seen flying
returning, against
a sunrise
rising, against
darkness.
Imagine
Laws
and attraction
until the day
is redefined
by constellations
of freckles, each one
a mystery, a question
unanswered, a potential
that makes you forget
the laws
of
pasts or futures.
Write about:
What it means
to be alive.

An earnest, thought-provoking, and inspiring way to begin the month. Cheers to you, Joseph. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and gorgeous words with us.
Great poem to start your month off! I always enjoy your writing.
Geese returning against the sunrise wins for image of the day. Love it!
I love the idea of the potential of freckles!
Me too, me too 😂
Yes, Joseph, we write to stay sane! Good way to say it.
Writing about wonder and beauty truly is a survival strategy.
Poetry makes great therapy. Enjoyed this one a lot.
Very lovely to read. Love the use of the word liminal!
Thank you all!
Good to be back, read your work, and see your faces again!
Joseph, What a treat to read your words again! “Become the ovation.” Yes! Yes! Yes!
You nailed it with this one. Great beginning for this year…
Write about the mullen growing in the cracks of the cellar steps
This poem makes me ready to embrace the liminal and step through it. What a concept!
I love how I can notice something new and understand a little deeper each time I read this poem (and many of your others).
Thank you, all! 💙
