This Morning, in the Desert
Silence invites me
for a walk. We
stride out, water
sloshing in my blue
bottle. She stops
to search prickly-pear
spines for secrets.
Cactus wrens
ignore us. Down
the steep part,
her shadow
overtakes mine.
Deep in the canyon,
she reaches
for my hand.

I love this. I think the part I like best is that I can’t figure out if silence is actually silence, or if it is a child.
Oh yes I like this one! I like the idea of “silence” taking you (or?) for a walk and the imagery! And, “she reaches for my hand.” Also, interesting to think of silence as female!
Sounds like a great walk – you and silence! Kudos.
Everything they say above!
