Bio for 2025


Sarah Josephine Pennington (she/her) is a queer writer and artist from Louisville, KY by way of Appalachia. She is a 2025 Filson Historical Society History Inspires Fellow and her work has been supported by the Kentucky Foundation for Women. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in journals including Still: The Journal, The Anthology of Appalachian Writers, storySouth, riddlebird, and Untelling. She is the author of chapbooks Cat Lady: A Journey in American Sentences (Harvard Square Press, 2025) and where the bluegrass grows: June 1916 (Porkbelly Press, 2025).
