Oh come on now, you had it coming
It’s like the ringing in my ears.
It gets louder when you enter the room
with heals clicking and hands swinging
by your side, then shoved into pants pockets,
pulling out fluffs of lint
like the stuff that comes out of your mouth
in little catlike balls.
I called the doctor once
you coughed then finally
cleared your airway.
Choking should have clued you in.
You should have known then
how your phlegm, like dragon spit,
was brimstone and would eventually
burn you alive.

The way you build from lint in pockets to dragon-spit brimstone is so visceral and satisfying. That title really says it all!
Thanks! Is was trying to show toxicity without saying it.
Holy crap, what an ending! Didn’t see it coming. Thrilled that it did.
Thank you. The dragon just came to me at the end. And just desserts.
love the way the details define your wry tone
Thank you! Details in the hairball.
Whew!:
how your phlegm, like dragon spit,
was brimstone and would eventually
burn you alive.
Thanks Pam.
