White Ford Edge
Thelma is new to me, but not truly new-new
She has the aroma of one who has been
around the block a time or two,
but she still has that Armor-All shine.
I named her for the freedom
she brought with her and I sing
her praises for each year, each mile.
She’s eyeing retirement with a grin,
And cannot be priced at her true value,
for it is too much to me, too little
to those boors on FB Marketplace.
She needs a Louise to truly appreciate
her. Alas, I need to get to work
in the morning without wanting to
jump the cliff.

I had the same relationship with my white Jetta. Finally gave her to the mechanic that knew her
That is a great idea. I don’t want her to go to a bad home.
Those boors on Facebook Marketplace—I’ve dealt with them too.
I did sell my previous car on Facebook in 20 minutes but I didn’t love the celica the way I love the ford.
Wonderful! I like how you balance sentimentality with reality and humor. Really loved the line, “She’s eyeing retirement with a grin”.
Thank you!
What a great poem! “… that Armor-All shine…” ! Great details, fast pace. Like Thelma. The last few lines that tie the reference together are terrrific. Well done!
I have set the cruise of my Mercury Mariner for 236,000 miles so I know your implication with these words…
