Icarus
(Inspired by Iniko’s song Icarus)
You wanted to touch the sun
The black sun
the sun that somehow rises everyday
despite the genocide that greets him
Teach me, you thought
What it takes to stay
You wanted to taste the sun
It’s yellow light infectious
Praying it would give you strength.

It’s deceptively hopeful poem with a peppering of assonance, repetition and clever marriages of verb and noun (“taste the sun.”) Well done!
