Investment returned
Hellish Roman heat
leaves leaves to droop, earn ire
when gardener’s back—
thus on longest day,
wilting woes forestalled,
I stay awake to water.
My gardener-talents
not hid in pots to wither—
no! Thriving flowers!

I love the sense of hope and renewal in this poem.
a joyful fifth chapter to the gardening chronicle
Yes, Greg! And I bet you’re glad the gardener will be back soon.
I can feel the back of the toiling and persistent gardener, here–but it will pay off! Well done with this, Greg.
Love: “wilting woes forestalled,”
And lol, agree with Nancy re gardener’s return!
Greg as gardener shall prevail! To the flowers!
Wonderful wordplay! This “Roman heat” takes me back to earlier times- and makes me curious about what all is going on. I had forgotten today is the longest day, too. Plus, I really enjoyed reading your poetry last year, and I’m so glad I stumbled upon this poem today.
Thank you, Michele!
