I Let the Cat Outside Today
knowing he’d kill something
for sport, pick up ticks
and poison ivy oils to bring
back in the house because
I know what it is to be trapped
and yowling out the window screen
and all of April flitting
past you on its way to bloom.

I love how the title flows into the rest of the poem, and then how that flow is maintained through form and line breaks. Very well-written!
You know, I love how you trick the reader with an innocuous and kind of uninteresting title. Then, as great poets do, you followed it up with a lovely poem. Thanks for sharing, Melissa.
Great title…and sentiment! “I know what it is to be trapped
and yowling out the window screen”
