A Monastery on Iona, 800 AD
Ivory parchment lies pristine
awaiting the scratch of the quill masterfully
wielded by the tower artisan
His ink bleeds grey and blue
adding embellishments of cobalt and green
until the light of day is lost
Another master work patiently awaiting his return
caged in protective iron
shining luminous in the night

Inspired by Tabitha and her paint chip poetry, drew some colours myself and the book of Kells came to mind
How fabulous! Love these tercets.
We can hear the scratching of the pen and see all the details.
Love the Book of Kells!
What will you write tomorrow?
Love you.
has exactly the right amount of myth, myst, and mystery
nice work.
I’ve sometimes imagined what it was like to be a monk copying scriptures day after day, but your poem gives me a finer appreciation
Thank you so much! Smiling hard reading this 🙂
Such a lovely image you painted. Nice writing, N. D.
