A Slight Change In Plans
A Slight Change In Plans
“The best laid plans of mice and men,” they say,
“Often go awry”,
I can not but help to think these words,
As I look up at the morning sky.
The clouds to the west grow dark and grey,
The wind about me whirls,
A little wisp of thirsty dust,
Rises and mockingly swirls.
The rain will soon be coming,
Likely to last all day,
The work outdoors will have to wait,
Until the rain has passed on its way.
I have so much I need to do,
Which needs to be done outside,
I have a feeling it won’t be done today,
No matter how hard I’ve tried.
So then I start to prioritize,
The things I think I need to do,
I can fuss and fret and worry about,
Until my face is blue.
But the truth is in the grand scheme of things,
It likely matters not,
All I can do is the best I can,
With all the time I’ve got.
With a wee bit of patience,
My plan can be re-thought,
And become a bit more flexible,
As I weigh the things I ought.
The things which really must be done,
And those which can wait a while,
It’s the end of the race which matters,
Though there be many a twist in the mile.
I sigh a breath of resolution,
And resign myself in peace,
The things needing doing will all get done,
And my silly worrying may cease.

The planning and imagining can be more exhausting that the work. Describes a real thing. May our worrying cease.
