Absent
That time
when the fireflies rise mid-calf
above the grass not quite dark but the light
has already switched from gold to silver
the yuccas standing sentinal frilled white helmets
on the hill thunder
rumbling beyond the canopy
of lush green That’s where
I’ve been

Thanks, Sean! I guess I was trying to explain why I avoid sitting at the computer.
Your ending makes us all want to go there! Nice work, Ellen.
Thanks, Nancy
Ellen,
What a gorgeous poem. The way it’s arranged on the page is everything, as is the ending perfect: “That’s where
I’ve been.”
I just love this poem–it makes me sigh with pleasure.
