After an Art Museum Visit, an erasure of Tomas Tranströmer’s poem “After the Attack”
Locked in a
painting
a balm
thick as a dive in
sudden
peace
blue
waves
to
open the
self

I love Transtromer and love what you’ve created here. The shape of the piece is so much like that wave.
Thank you. Transtromer is one of my favorite poets.
To hell with Transtromer. It’s you who are the marvel here.
Well, he wrote the words I used to write my poem.
“Locked in a painting” is just the right beginning!
That wave shape echoing the theme of the poem! And I love that art is “a balm,” from one art-loving poet to another.
Yes!
Personally, when I write erasures, I don’t put “erasure” in the title or use white space to indicate what’s been taken out. I try to make the poem look and sound as much like me as possible.
This one’s great. If it were mine, I’d cut a bit more. A suggested revision:
Art Museum Visit
a balm
a dive in
blue waves
to open
the self
Some erasures I don’t use the white space. I do a little of both.
I like this, it feeels like wet paint.
We like him too 🙂
Love that ending.
Wonderful, Karen.
