At a 2023 Jackson Browne Concert
I saw aging hippies with gray ponytails,
well-padded grandmothers
with their pattern-bald husbands,
and a slew of sixty-something-year-old women
with bleach-blonde hair, high heels and push-up bras,
all wanting to relive their glory days by taking it easy,
pretending they are not now running on empty.

Great picture you’ve painted! And I love the descriptors: well-padded, pattern-bald, bleach-blond, push-up.
A vivid image! Well done.
I imagine the music was wonderful! I play his music all the time. Nice way to end the poem!
Love it! BTW, none us are running on empty. Maybe it’s because we all want to stay … just a little bit longer.
saw and felt the same at a Bob Dylan concert a few years ago
