Baby Bat
little leather creature
smaller than my balled up fist
curled wings crossed
tiny feet clutch rain gutter’s edge
grip rain-tapped metal
hope hangs here

Thanks. He was just too cute this morning!
Makes me think of the many ways we all have to describe home. Good one!
Thanks, Lee! I saw the little creature earlier this morning when I let my dog out in the yard. I had a completely different poem in mind for today until I saw that bat. Ha!

I love this gentle reminder that hope lives. It is up to each of us to find and recognize it. The last line “hope hangs here” is one to be remembered.

This is one of my favorites of your poems.
Love the sounds and what I see when I read, especially “little leather creature/smaller than my balled up fist” and agree with Nancy on “hope hangs here”.
Thanks for bringing this ‘night-sight’ creature to the page!

Thank you, Sylvia! 💜
What a cute little baby bat poem!
Thanks, Chelsie! 🦇
I’m so jealous you saw a baby bat
They hang out (literally) in the places you wouldn’t expect. I learned that if you ever see one on the ground, you leave it alone; the mom will come by to pick it up. 🦇🖤
