Beggar in the rain
Cardinal
in his bright rags
lands on the deck railing
to tweet for food
and his conning of me
will win
again.

“rags” is a cool word and gets at how he might be shiny but scruffy with rain
You got it Gaby…
Birds can con me any day of the week! Enjoyed reading this, and it is good to see your work again this year.
Thanks, Sylvia. I always enjoy your work. I will get to your poetry by the weekend. Promise…
So glad you are back. The cardinal con–fun take on the clever fellow.
Glad to see you again, K. Bruce Florence.
Your poems a breath of fresh air. Bet you know my cousin David Choate in Albany
You win that bet ,Par. David is a long-time friend. We were friends through high school and roommates in college.
Delightful imagery!
Thanks for that compliment, Deanna Mascle.
I was drawn in by your title and I was not disappointed! We all seem to be a sucker for animals. Also, the bold lettering for some reason matched the vibe of the con. (Maybe it’s because I consider advertising a kind of con of its own?)
