Below Expectations
She missed two Lunar Faires,
needed 14 good tomato plants
and gave away more than 20
surplus seedlings. Her own
extra are not enough. She failed
by the dozen. Her heirlooms
flopped in coco coir–
didn’t establish
roots worthy of commitment.
She offers Goal Guidance
on Substack, but maybe
they are writing prompts
in disguise. Maybe the problem
all along wasn’t the medium:
Maybe it was the marketing.

Expectations both internal and external are such a double edged sword, aren’t they. Love the feeling you’ve captured here
The plans were big but they are all being executed in their FIRST season!!
Thanks for the healthy perspective.
Fun poem. I love the last verse.
Thanks!
Sometimes it’s all about the spin.
I really enjoyed this poem. Great tone. Love the voice–

Wonderful to hear!
Thank you.
I reworked that part carefully.
Tabitha –
didn’t establish
roots worthy of commitment. – my goodness!
Yes, I think many lessons are writing prompts. Some need distance before we see the truth. So enjoying your work this June. I have only a balcony and have downgraded to herbs and flowers instead of trying to grow everything I used to, but I always leave a corner pot for cherry tomatoes!
Thank you.
Grateful for the lessons, and trusting that there’s a reason behind all of it.
Sending good vibes to your balcony! Appreciate your encouragement and attention.
Seasons are different a few hours North. Important as always for me to remember that no other’s experience is comparable with my own. You are learning and growing exactly as you should be.
Your light is very very bright.
You find purchase with some things and not with others. A garden as well as a life should always remain an experiment, I believe!
