Book Dragon
The Librarian slips him dragon
books before barcoding them.
Sure to see him again before
the final bell rings.
The real tale to tell
is where his imagination
takes him. It isn’t reality
although it’s based on a true-ish
story. As the prophet of his
friend-group, he is no main
character- he is an unreliable
narrator. Not an overachiever,
he hides behind the cover,
avoiding –although reading–
the room. The twist– he can predict
with some accuracy the origin
story of both heroes and villains.
Victories and downfalls falling
on equally deaf ears. World-
building his memories.

Wonderful! Such strong imagery here. I love this librarian who shares reading/treasures with this sweet child!
I agree and hope to be that kind of library again! Thank you for the encouragement!
Shauna – The title drew me in and I was happy to follow! Love how you included fiction/writing terms throughout – very cool!
Thank you!
“The real tale to tell\is where his imagination\takes him.” So much nostalgia from when I attended school, being encouraged to read. Sure to resonate with those fantasy writers among us. Well done!
Thank you!
The line breaks. The details of characterization you put together. A prophet. An unreliable narrator. The last three couplets – he can predict the origin story of heroes and villains alike – amazing. Well done, Shauna. 🙂
Thank you for the encouragement.
