Courage Is Not the Thing with a Mane
Courage is not the thing with a mane –
lions got logos,
lions got merch,
and entire camera crews
waiting for them to yawn
Courage is a feral goat
standing on a ledge
the width of a shoelace
two hundred feet above
common sense.
This cliff was clearly designed on a day
that caught the Architect in a foul mood.
Courage has the audacity to audition
for the gargoyle position.
Courage just keeps showing up
where the math says it should not,
chewing a thistle
like it owes him money.
Gravity waits below with a clipboard,
as Courage keeps putting one shaky,
ridiculous hoof
after the other.

Gravity with that clipboard…ayy, it do wait. Neat capture.
Thank you!
So good! Maybe my favorite of your poems this month.
Thank you! That means a lot

Genius!
and the final strope is just as strong.
Wonderful poem. Thank you for sharing.

This is so wonderfully designed, so many great lines, my fave: “Courage has the audacity to audition
for the gargoyle position.”
