Dancing in Krakow’s Jewish Quarter
In the liquid darkness
we danced
Where vanished lovers
held hands
Circling young and old
fingertips touching
Shoes tapping cobblestones
old codes cracking
Dancers woven together
costumes of air
Dead music living
melodies bare
Americans mixed
in the throng
Few do (most don’t)
know the song

Late june poetry is sooo awesome !!
What a vibrant scene, Lee! Love this all the way to the end.
Such a great capture of a scene, and subtle commentary at the end. Your poems have been beautiful this month, Lee.
the lineation captures the rhythm of dancing shared with the dead
The title gives great context to the
whole poem. Excellent!
Each couplet is a pearl, explodes in image and emotion.
Especially love: “Dead music living/melodies bare.”
Full of culture. And great movement throughout.
