Defiance
You insist
I let you stay on the phone
my four hours driving
Home.
I acquiesce.
i let you be strong.
i don’t argue.
i listen
to you drift
to sleep, anyway.
i listen
to your deepening breath,
your dulcet murmurs,
a snore or two.
I listen
to your defiant
sounds of sleep
and smile
and know
and see
it is love.

Awww a father and son poem! Love it!
Believe it or not, this one wasn’t about my sons 🤣
Another person who makes me let her stay on the phone all the way driving home from visiting her.
Authentic and emotionally accessible. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you, Jeremy
You had me from the opening stanza. Enviable craft makes this poem ring true. Brilliant!
☺️ Thank you very much, L.
