Grilled Beef Burger, American Cheese, side of Grippo’s Bar-B-Q Potato Chips
on a not-quite-summer
Sunday afternoon.
It should have been cheddar
except that I took
the wrong credit card to Meijer’s,
it was expired,
and when I went back
to correct by stupid mistake,
I got distracted by Rainier cherries,
the kind that are not quite yellow
and not red, either,
like the ones you bought me
at that market in Seattle
on a not-quite-summer
Sunday afternoon
back when everything was still ahead of us.

I like this one
ok, my prior comment was vague.
It’s neat that what you might be eating is cherries… the kind that hover between two colors, maybe that feels right because the weather is equally vague. Makes you think of Seattle, which is where Mt Rainier is. Are the cherries so named because of the mountain? I gotta look that up now. Plus the burger is american not cheddar and you and the credit card seem equally expired. I feel you are embracing the vague that was then and the vague of now.
Looking back with longing and wishing things had not change. The metaphor of the cherries and going back to fix a mistake. Very nice.
I meant getting distracted by the cherries when you tried to fix the”not quite”
I like how the title is not really what it’s about
