I Would Die For Life
No to data centers
Not here, not anywhere
Yes to fireflies
Yes to feeling that life is precious
Yes to melting cold dead hearts
Yes to believing in life
Yes to asking why
Why should we build them when they do not prove useful?
Why would humanity automate its thinking?
Why would art choose validation over a journey
How much do you love narcissism?
Yes to curiosity
Yes to wonder
Yes to autonomy, privacy
These are not worth losing
The world doesn’t need it
It’s a trade of everything good
for nothing
It’s worse than any trade in any history ever
Humans should be understanding
That “Idiocracy” is a sweet playground fantasy
compared to what could be
And soon
If we sell this land, any land
If we enable this evil
For any conceivable reason
Because so far it’s doing nothing good

♥️♥️♥️ cheers !!!
Love your poem and agree.
This feels like you’re filling out a survey, one that all of us would be rather wise to fill out daily, hourly even. You’d be remiss to not just print these out and hand them around or hang them over door knobs, like somebody handing out oracle cards at a bustling coffee shop (albeit the stakes undoubtedly higher). I love “Human should be understanding” isolated in a single line, and I feel as if this poem sets out to, and successfully mind you, outline what that understanding means.
I like the beat of this poem—like a drum beat heart beat of the world saying it’s piece! The first 3 lines so simple and clear and also grabs the reader to think about what is really important to keeping humans alive and living a worthwhile life—YES to fireflies!
Love, love, love the form and compelling energy that drives it, Jerielle. The title invites me into this vital poem as it fully embraces life. Well-crafted!
