Individuality
We live in a society that has
become quick to judge and
condemn those who look,
think, or talk differently.
Let us not be censorious
but open-minded and
inclusive and embrace
one another’s individuality.
Just as the cardinal shares
a limb with the robin and
sparrow, let us share a limb
with someone who may be
different in the tree of life.
Imagine a world with no
originality, that certainly
wouldn’t paint a very pretty
picture.
Let us not be afraid, but have
the courage to walk our own
steps and forge a path inspired
by our own thoughts.

Amen to all of this. It’s too easy to forget sometime that we’re all human, still trying to figure things out, that there can still be room for unique voices. Thank you for sharing this.
Philip, thank you for your comments.
*Echoing Amen* and the birds are.
Sharing and singing.
What wonderful true words. Nothing excites me more than seeing so many different birds of different colors and sizes around me feeders at once.
We can learn from Mother Nature.
Yes Coleman, very true. Thank you for commenting.
especially love the stanza about the cardinal, robin, and sparrow sharing a branch that ends on the Edenic tree of life
Thank you, Gaby. Glad to see you back again this year.
I couldn’t agree more this is poetry with a purpose!
Thank you, Jeremy.
Great message in this one, John. I think the same way as you. Also love all the different birds sharing the same branch, inspired image.
Thank you, Bill.
Wow, this is such a good message. Especially the detail of the cardinal and the robin.
It’s also the beginning of Pride Month, and yours might be the first poem on here this year to make me think about that.

Thank you, Tabitha. No matter what path one walks, we are in this together. Congrats on your new book!
