Industry
We’ve been strip-mined.
Lungs seared, seams twisted & blown,
bones shattered and strata upheaved.
When the heavy machinery’s done
violated earth gets heaped about,
daisy and coneflower seeded.
Curious bees visit.
Reclaimed,
a tattoo over a scar.

Love the title and the ways one can read “done/violated earth.” Your economy of words is a marvel.
Nature’s tattoo! Lovely.
That’a his cornerstone, Sue!
Absolutely agreed
This leaves me taking in deep breaths and exhaling slowly. Powerful and never verbose is what I think of when it comes to your word play.
Mountain raised – – that I should have lived so long to see how man can strip away all the beauty, but then there are those coneflowers! Thank you for another look.
