(lo que significa) ser mitad ciervo
A veces
me llamo ‘peritio.’
A veces
No soy poderosa.

I used a translator program to really enjoy this poem
haha, thank you! here is my own translation for reference (and translating it made me realize i missed a somewhat important article in the original. whoops!):
Sometimes
my name is ‘peryton.’
(Borges tells us this. That the animal will only kill you once.
And I…)
Above a shadow dreamt in my past
in the sky’s night and between stars in the shape of ice,
I–the beast–think and don’t remember
eyes the color of honey.
But in my heart, within my chest, between my wings,
I know they’re somewhat familiar eyes.
(Borges doesn’t tell us this.
We just have to pretend and fix our ghosts so they don’t go instinct in a deer brain.)
Sometimes
I want (to be) a human
with honey-colored eyes.
A foreigner from strange lands. I desire her gods, her blood, her skin.
It’s the shadow, it’s my daughter, it’s my mistress, my soul.
And I…
(Borges tells us this. That the animal will only kill itself once.
But don’t…)
I am not powerful.
The other perytons carry blood by their lips,
carry blood by their pelts,
carry blood by their antlers,
carry deer by their shadows.
But I am not powerful.
I an thankful for the translation. It makes the original real…
