Memory and Musing
My rocking horse, grounded
by thick springs on metal frame,
rubbed smooth by others before me,
was where I could sit for hours,
wondering where the clouds went
for Sunday School or with a mind
as clear as the sky after they
had found their way there.

Such a sweet memory of a child’s musing while sitting on a rocking horse. The journey of imagination is real and this is such a wonderful example of childhood musings. I love the transition from the cloudy to the clear sky, as if to confirm your thoughts.
Beautiful!
Such a gorgeous snapshot of a childhood moment. Your writing brings us right there next to you. I can see that little rocking horse and sense your wonder. Lovely!
Those rocking horses were gold for kids!! You went from “grounded” to ethereal in just a few lines. So good!
the rocking horse’s weight and mass contrast beautifully with the mind as clear as the sky
Love this childhood musing!
It expresses the longing for that clear mind, when so much of our brain today is cluttered, anxious, and cloudy.
I love the polarity of the rocking horse being grounded while you wondered about clouds and sky.
Memorable! Such rhythmic lyricism I feel the pace of the rocking horse. Well done, Nancy
I love the specificness and intimacy of “wondering where the clouds went/for Sunday School”
Back and a forth as the world shimmered by . . . a proverbial beat went on . . . nice
Wonderful. I love the contrast between the metal frame of the horse and the freedom of the child’s mind: “as clear as the sky”!
What a beautiful poem, Nancy. So tender. My favorite line was:
“rubbed smooth by others before me,”
