Middle Aged Couple
Middle Aged Couple
The middle aged couple
long-married
duck into the coffee shop
out of the rain
he guiding her in
with his tallness
his caring
she smiling back and up to him
physical closeness
echoing emotional.
And I think how blissful
is this trust,
this communion
how protected they are
under this umbrella of concern.
And I wonder
could I ever again
be this unguarded
this caught up in devotion.

I think you should end the last stanza with a question mark.
A very emotionally powerful piece of work. I found tension growing as they communed and then discovered why. Nice
I love this
no matter how old
you can be struck

lightning
Thanks for your comments. I think of the last sentence as a statement, not a question
Good insight
Touching and perceptive. The question springs from all perhaps who have loved and lost.
