On Being New York
Great Dragon of the East.
life blood in my veins,
the steam of survival bellows up
and out of my lungs – what am I
but a sentient and fine tuned machine?
the creatures that dwell upon my skin
Whether the world is waking
or sleeping I am steady, resting always
with one eye open, ready to rise

YEEEESSS!!! AAAAAHHHH!!! And that, my friend, IS New York! Boom!
I’m thrilled that you wrote this one, especially today. Let’s go, KNICKS!!!
I’m glad you saw it and like it! I kept thinking about your suggestion yesterday when I was doing the dishes and thought a dragon? Really? But here we are lol. I didn’t realize today was game day so I love that even more
The dragon works perfectly. It is a key element in Chinese New Year celebrations in New York each year, plus, it’s a magical creature— as is New York. Game day was yesterday: WE WON!!! Yeaaaaaaaaaaahhhh! Your poem and Linda’s poem made my morning. <3
I’m even more relieved about the game then lol! I saw an article of people complaining about celebrities suddenly being on the “bandwagon” but I thought really I don’t see it much different than going to a production – I love to watch people do things they love and are good at, what a gift!
Yes! Go Knicks!
Yes! Go Knicks!
Love: “Great Dragon of the East.”
I’ll have to show this one to my wife — born in Brooklyn. I hear a little Frank O’Hara in this one.
