Paper Dolls
They arrived twice a year,
on a birthday and Christmas.
A delight to open the colorful folder,
carefully cut out and dress those thin cardboard dolls,
folding small rectangles like anchors
to hold the paper clothing in place.
Designed with flowers and ribbons,
polka dots, stripes, she moved the doll back and forth,
imagining where she would go to show off her outfit.
Prancing her doll proudly
across the living room floor crafting her destiny

Did you ever imagine you would show them off to us now in a poem? Lovely stir of memories and a nod to “crafting ” your “destiny” as a writer!

You’ve shown so much nostalgia in the piece. It’s interesting looking back on those younger memories, when the world is new and everything–even the simple things–seem to be right out of a fairy tale. I agree with popular opinion, that “Prancing her doll proudly\across the living room floor crafting her destiny” is the cherry on top. Well done!
I am pleased the nostalgia came through. Thank you for your kind and insightful comment.
