Pennsylvania Redbud
Tiny buds coat
the hillsides along the turnpike,
a respite from traffic and construction.
Hidden in alcoves like saints in the church,
splashes of pink hues
brushed across the landscape.
Soothing portrait at the end of winter’s chill
branches covered with trails of buds
bending in dance steps.
A performance of Swan Lake
with different poses
offering a wave drenched in pinks
throughout the Tuscarora Mountain.

I wish I had that view yesterday. We sat in ridiculous traffic heading to a family gathering yesterday.
Great poem!
Thank you. Sorry to hear about your traffic woes. They seem to be worse towards summer.

Painted beautifully!
I appreciate your validating comment.
Wow – I’ve travelled the turnpike often but never in spring, I guess. This is a lovely ode to looking for beauty as it passes by so quickly. I especially like
“Hidden in alcoves like saints in the church.”
Seeing redbuds when and where you least expect is comforting. Thank you for validating the view.
I love how you discover beauty hidden among us! It’s there if we only pay attention. Your poem is a lovely Swan Lake in itself! Thanks for sharing your vision.
I appreciate your kind and encouraging comment. I am pleased the poem spoke to you.
Yes, I can see those tiny buds dancing on branches, wonderful description.
Driving through redbud highways is one of my favorite things.
You are so right. There are “redbud highways.” What a great phrase. Thank you for validating the redbud and this poem.
I love the sounds of “the hillsides along the turnpike” and the description “saints in the church,/splashes of pink hues” is lovely as is the ending!
Thank you so much. I love reading chosen selections. It validates the writing process.

Beautifully written! I’m from Pennsylvania! Miss those hints of spring where you least expect it!
Thank you for your kind comment. I miss Pennsylvania also, and love when I see those “Welcome” signs on the highway.
