Walked away on a summer day

Half past 4am
Or so I’m told
But who really knows
Anymore
All I can see is your face
Laying there
stiff
Rigor mortis
Eyes shut
Never to lay upon me again
Why did you leave?
Two young teens
So lost and hopeless without the man they called father
Alone
With no one
But a mother who pinched her pennies
Just so we wouldn’t freeze
Just so we could
Have everything we ever wanted
Despite that only thing
Being you.

We’ve been so lost without you now.
Swimming around
Our souls hunker down
As the current pushes and pulls
Lulls us to sleep
In a fish bowl so round
We distort our realities
People poke and prod
Point and laugh
At the two lost souls inside
And year after year
Without you
Is just another reminder
That we’re freaks.

Freaks who would rather be dead than without the man they call father.

How could you leave?
